Although the summer months are filled with longer, sunnier days, they can also bring life-threatening weather, like storms, tornadoes and wildfires. While we can’t prevent natural disasters, we can prepare for them and help our customers do the same.

Through the Business Resource Center, both you and your USLI policyholders have free access to various resources that outline precautions to take in case of a disaster, what to include in an emergency response plan and information on how to recover after disaster strikes — all of these resources can be found in the Safety and Loss Control area of our Business Resource Center. We’ve also created a new checklist for what to include in an emergency kit.

While mitigating risk and protecting your business is important, knowing how to protect yourself, your home and your family in the event of a natural disaster is imperative. We offer the following preparedness documents that are most relevant to inclement weather during summer months. These also include information on how to submit a claim:

When it comes to identifying natural hazards that could put a business at risk and how to prepare for them, Disastersafety.org, which is run by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, is a great tool. They offer information on how to prepare your business for a severe weather emergency, what to do if your building is damaged by a hurricane and much more.

While we always hope we don’t encounter any natural disasters, we can’t predict the future. Your clients will appreciate you offering these free resources that could potentially save them time and money, all while giving them peace of mind amidst the unknown. We encourage you to share these resources with them as a value-added service that they receive for free with their USLI insurance policy.
